In 2013, Pillow was founded in my living room to connect the world and spread the joy of travel through short-term rentals. I am incredibly proud of the impact we’ve had by making that possible in a way that works for the multifamily industry. Today, I’m ecstatic to announce that we’ve decided to catapult our journey to achieving this mission by joining the Expedia Group as part of the HomeAway family.
Up until four months ago, I had all intentions of running Pillow as an independent company for the rest of my life. Just over a year ago, I published a very personal blog post about why I started Pillow and what fuels us each and every day; making global living a right — not a luxury.
These last few years have been an incredibly fun and rewarding experience as we’ve collaborated with our terrific clients to help introduce control, transparency and new revenue opportunities for Multifamily owners and managers via short term rentals. We so appreciate your being part of the Pillow family.
Pillow is and will continue to be a means of helping to eliminate the anchors that weigh us down and prevent us from expanding our horizons. We want to help more people become globally mobile; by providing the means to earn extra income, reducing the burden of paying monthly rent, and giving them the ability to travel and work comfortably from anywhere in the world.
At first, I didn’t know what to expect from Expedia Group, a very large corporation with 23 global brands and more than 22,500 employees. As I personally got to know the Expedia and HomeAway team, I found them extraordinarily talented and ambitious. I was thoroughly impressed that their guiding principles were not just words, but strongly held values shared by each person I met. Their company purpose is to “Bring the World Within Reach”. I couldn’t think of a better combined mission. It was clear that they were the right partner and that it’s the right time.
Together, we will continue to collaborate with and serve owners, managers and residents by opening their doors to new opportunities.
In the last few years, short-term rentals have shifted from primarily vacation homes to a very common form of lodging in all types of environments. Our partners will continue to be able to take advantage of our stellar technology and service while our entire team continues to innovate & grow along with the industry.
At this moment I find myself reflecting on some my most cherished memories, when startup life was most grim. My co-founders Justin Miller, Dan Palumbo, Todd Conway and I each did our fair share of hands on work, cleaning toilets and changing sheets to truly understand the short-term rental industry. I’d like to thank each of them and the rest of our current and past team members for their fortitude, radical candor, adaptability and shared passion of our common vision. I have so much gratitude and so many wonderful memories of the culture, product and partners we built together. This next chapter wouldn’t have been possible without all of you.
Thank you to our investors, advisors and board members Tim Chang, Hunter Walk & Rex Tibbens. During the highs and lows you were dedicated, supportive and provided the perfect amount of guidance.
As Always…Go Pillow!
